About
Our StorySt. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church was established in the spring of 1903. At that time, a group of 36 Christians called Reverend William Nommensen, who was serving St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mauston, to serve as its first pastor. He accepted and St. Luke became a sister church to St Paul's.
By 2000, God had blessed us to an extent that we had outgrown our original church building. St Luke completed construction of a new church building in 2003, where we are currently located. In 2004, St Luke founded an early childhood ministry called Leap of Faith. It was named Leap of Faith since, at the time, St Luke had accrued a large amount of building debt and, by all human standards it would have been foolish to start a new ministry under such circumstances. But the congregation trusted in God's blessing and decided to name the new ministry "Leap of Faith." This ministry began in with just a handful of students and God has blessed it tremendously. Today Leap of Faith serves over 75 children from 50 families not only with quality childcare and before and after-school care, but more importantly it serves these children with the good news that they, too, are forgiven children of God through our Savior Jesus. If you'd like to learn more about our Leap of Faith Early Childhood Ministry, click the tab above. Today St Luke remains a loving group of Christians dedicated to proclaiming the good news sins forgiven in Jesus to New Lisbon and the surrounding area. We are a smaller congregation, averaging around 70 people who worship with us each Sunday. We'd love to have you join us in our mission to serve our community with the gospel! |
Our BeliefsWe believe that there is only one true God. He has made himself known as the Triune God, one God in three persons. The Scripture says that whoever does not worship this God worships a false god, a god who does not exist.
We also believe that God has given us the full revelation of himself in the person of Jesus Christ. In Jesus God has specifically revealed himself as the loving Savior God, who "so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). We strive to share this with others. We believe that God gave us the Bible through people whom he chose. In a miraculous way that goes beyond all human investigation, God the Holy Spirit inspired these men to write his Word. These "men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:21). Every thought they expressed, every word they used was given them by the Holy Spirit by inspiration. Therefore, we believe that Scripture is a unified whole, true and without error in everything it says. The Bible is the infallible authority and guide for everything we believe and do. It is fully sufficient, clearly teaching us all we need to know for salvation, making us "wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:15), and equipping us to lead a godly life. St Luke belongs to a network of churches across North America and the world called the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).
