Our Story
St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church was established in the spring of 1903. At that time, a group of 36 Christians called Reverend William Nommensen, who was serving St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mauston, to serve as its first pastor. He accepted and St. Luke's became a sister church to St Paul's.
By 2000, God had blessed us to an extent that we had outgrown our original church building. St Luke's completed construction of a new church building in 2003, where we are currently located.
In 2004, St Luke's founded an early childhood ministry called Leap of Faith. It was named Leap of Faith since, at the time, St Luke's had accrued a large amount of building debt and, by all human standards it would have been foolish to start a new ministry under such circumstances. But the congregation trusted in God's blessing and decided to name the new ministry "Leap of Faith." This ministry began in with just a handful of students and God has blessed it tremendously. Today Leap of Faith serves over 75 children from 50 families not only with quality childcare and before and after-school care, but more importantly it serves these children with the good news that they, too, are forgiven children of God through our Savior Jesus. Today St Luke remains a loving group of Christians dedicated to proclaiming the good news sins forgiven in Jesus to New Lisbon and the surrounding area. We are a smaller congregation, averaging around 70 people who worship with us each Sunday. We'd love to have you join us in our mission to serve our community with the gospel!
